Addons are mostly for the Bedrock Edition and are lighter than mods. They dont change the whole game engine but can add new mobs skins or small gameplay features. Addons are easy to install from the in game marketplace or by importing files.
Main Diffrences Between Mods and Addons
Mods have more power and can do deeper changes but they need more work to install. Addons are simpler but with less customisation. If you play Bedrock you will use addons if you play Java you will probebly use mods.
Which One Should You Use
If you want full custom worlds big gameplay changes and advanced features go for mods. If you just want small fun changes and quick install go for addons.
